Having been born into a family of musicians and artists, I started my music education at the age of six, when my mother, a world-class classical pianist and educator, had enrolled me into the Moscow Conservatory School for Gifted Children for classical piano training. The rigorous program included studies in technique, ear-training, theory, choir and counterpoint. By the age of eleven I discovered The Beatles and begged my mother to also let me study the guitar, to which she agreed, as long as I continued my piano studies.
After immigrating to the United States in the 70’s and consequently attending The Westchester Conservatory of Music and The Fordham University School of Business, I began my professional career as a performer and songwriter and was eventually signed to Geffen Records with the popular New York band Tour De Force, as well as a publishing deal with Warner Chappell Publishing.
With rapid advances in music and computers, I quickly embraced the technology and expanded my skills to production and engineering, having recorded numerous independent New York bands and solo artists.
I was also lucky enough to develop a professional relationship with Alan Menken, a multiple award-winning motion picture and Broadway composer, with whom I’ve worked closely on numerous recording sessions for animated features like “Beauty and The Beast”, “The Little Mermaid”, “Aladdin”, “Little Shop Of Horrors”, and etc.
In 1996 I was fortunate enough to be chosen to compose and produce music for an experimental children’s educational computer game “Kid Riffs”, developed by the famed IBM Watson Research Center. The game received worldwide acclaim, including The Parents’ Choice Award, The Consumer Electronics Show Innovation Awards, and was featured in Disney’s EPCOT Innovations Pavilion.
In 2006 I received a Grammy® Nomination for Best Native American Music Album for my production and compositional work on “Jana/American Indian Story”.
Also in 2006 I was lucky to have received two Native American Music Awards for Jana/American Indian Christmas as Album of The Year and Best Producer.
In 2008 I began what is now a thriving musical relationship with Ace Frehley, the legendary founding member of KISS, consequently engineering and later co-producing his last 5 studio albums.
In 2015 I won The Independent Music Award for Kristin Amarie/Notes From A Journey as Best New Age Album.
